As one of the greatest explorers of this generation, it’s no surprise that Christina ‘Lusti’ Lustenberger’s story starts on the mountain. Her parents first met in the mountains, and opened their ski shop, where Lusti spent most of her childhood. This full immersion into skiing proved a solid foundation for her racing career, which included a trip to the Olympics. But her success doesn’t come without interruptions, undergoing numerous reconstructive knee surgeries over the course of her racing career. After her fifth surgery, she decided to retire from racing, but knowing she couldn’t walk away from the mountain all together, she turned to alpine guiding, marking the start of her journey in becoming one of the world’s top ski mountaineers.
Her tenacity and fearlessness allows her to face the toughest (and steepest) terrain, which has earned her a reputation for her impressive mountaineering lines. Recently, Lusti put first descents on the Great Trango Tower and Mt. Cook in New Zealand. As she continues to forge new frontiers, she continually challenges the face of ski mountaineering, combining her technical skills with an unbelievable amount of ambition and creativity.
