YETI V Series FAQ
WHAT IS A YETI V SERIES™ COOLER?
The YETI V Series cooler is the result of our relentless dedication to innovation and our mission to “improve the damn thing.” This stainless steel cooler might look like something from the past, but inside these walls is groundbreaking thermal innovation. The YETI V Series cooler uses vacuum insulation – the same technology used in our Rambler® drinkware and the best insulator known. This technology (in addition to a few other factors) offers the best insulation that science allows and, of course, it’s YETI tough.
IS THERE A WARRANTY ON THE YETI V SERIES COOLER?
The YETI V Series cooler comes with a five-year warranty. For more information, please visit our Warranty Information page.
HOW BIG IS THE YETI V SERIES COOLER? HOW MANY CANS WILL FIT INSIDE?
The YETI V Series cooler’s external dimensions are 24.8” x 16.7” x 17.4” (63 cm x 42.42 cm x 44.2 cm) – you can find more details and dimensions here. Internally, the cooler holds 46 12 oz. (355 mL) cans with 36 lbs. (16.33 kg) of ice.
HOW DO I CLEAN MY YETI V SERIES?
For general cleaning we recommend using mild soap and warm water.
For a more thorough cleaning INSIDE the cooler: You may use a solution of warm water and bleach (6:1 ratio) with a sponge or non-abrasive rag. Odours can easily get trapped in hard-to-reach areas such as around the gasket and drain plug, so be sure to thoroughly scrub those areas.
For a more thorough cleaning OUTSIDE the cooler (the stainless steel):
- Stainless Steel Cleaner - Apply hot water and the stainless steel cleaning solution to a soft sponge, mixing thoroughly. Proceed to wipe and rinse your YETI V Series cooler clean.
- Baking Soda or Vinegar – Sprinkle baking soda or vinegar on dampened affected area, let it sit for 5-10 minutes and scrub with a non-abrasive rag or soft sponge.
Please note that we still recommend cleaning your cooler with mild soap and water after using one of the above methods.
HOW LONG WILL YETI V SERIES COOLER HOLD ICE?
The YETI V Series cooler houses vacuum-insulated panels and our Tundra®’s PermaFrost™ Insulation. Vacuum insulation is how our Rambler® drinkware is able to keep ice for hours on even the hottest days. Because two powerful insulators are working together, we are proud to say the V Series cooler offers unprecedented thermal performance in a YETI. Now that’s saying something.
But there are many variables that will affect ice retention. Variables that can affect ice retention include the ice quality, ice quantity, type of ice (crushed, block, cube, dry), outside environment, exposure to direct sunlight, temperature of the food and drinks when they go in the cooler, etc. Which is to say there’s a lot you can do to affect the longevity of your ice.
Because of the large number of variables, as well as the lack of an industry standard for measuring ice retention, claims that place a definite time (5, 10, 14 days) are often based on testing conditions and not real-life situations.
Ultimately, if you can minimize the negative variables that affect ice retention, you’ll get optimal performance out of your YETI and it’ll do what it’s built for. We’ve compiled a comprehensive list of tips and tricks to maximize ice retention.
HOW MUCH DOES IT WEIGH EMPTY? FULL?
Empty, the cooler weighs approximately 35lbs. (15.88 kg).
With the advertised contents of 46 cans + 36 lbs. (16.33 kg) of ice, it would weigh over 110 lbs. (50 kg) – of course, the weight of contents will ultimately determine how heavy the cooler is when full.
WILL MY YETI COOLER KEEP MY HOT ITEMS HOT?
You might be surprised to read this, but YES. The same insulation that keeps the cooler cold also retains heat. Just like how your Rambler® will keep your ice water nice and cold, and your coffee piping hot. To ensure you don’t damage the cooler, we recommend you keep contents below 93 °C (200 °F).
CAN THE YETI V SERIES COOLER BE CUSTOMIZED?
We are not able to offer customization for the YETI V Series cooler at this time.
HOW DO I REMOVE RUST FROM MY YETI V SERIES COOLER?
Stainless steel is rust resistant, but not rustproof. If you are experiencing rust on your YETI V Series cooler, you can follow these techniques for removal:
- Stainless Steel Cleaner - Apply hot water and the stainless steel cleaning solution to a soft sponge, mixing thoroughly. Proceed to wipe and rinse your YETI V Series cooler clean.
- Baking Soda or Vinegar – Sprinkle baking soda or vinegar on dampened affected area, let it sit for 5-10 minutes and scrub with a non-abrasive or soft sponge.
Please note that we still recommend cleaning your cooler with mild soap and water after using one of the above methods.
IS THE YETI V SERIES COOLER “GRIZZLY RESISTANT”?
While YETI tough, the YETI V Series cooler was not designed for the Interagency Grizzly Bear Committee (IGBC) test. This test requires a locking function, and the YETI V Series cooler does not have lock ports. We have plenty of IGBC-certified coolers – check out our full line of Tundra® coolers if that’s what you need.
ARE THERE REPLACEMENT PARTS FOR THE YETI V SERIES COOLER?
Yes. While we engineer and test every product for long-term durability, sometimes things get really wild. We have dedicated replacement parts for the YETI V Series Latch, Handles, and Hinges. Contact our outfitter team here for more information.
CAN YOU USE DRY ICE IN THE YETI V SERIES COOLER?
No, we do not recommend using Dry Ice in the YETI V Series.
CAN I SIT OR STAND ON THE COOLER?
The YETI V Series is tested and supports at least 300 lbs. (136 kg) on the lid. If using the cooler to sit or stand, we recommend using necessary safety precautions, including ensuring the surface temperature is not too hot and footing is firm.
WILL THE YETI V SERIES GET HOT IN THE SUN?
In a word, yes. The YETI V Series cooler surface temperature will rise as ambient temperatures rise, so it’s always important to use caution when handling the cooler whenever it’s near a heat source.
